Large 19th century fijian tabua (sperm whale's tooth pendant). This tabua has excellent age patina and is pierced on each end as a tubua should be. What appears to be a carved name on one side. Possible; the name of the high ranking owner of the tabua who would have worn it as a symbol of status. Possibly another faint name on the same side. Tabua's are very rare and getting extremely hard to find. Approx. l 7.25" item as1901
